Frosted Windows: Winterizing Your Home All Year Round

· · Leave a Comment

Frosted Windows

Harsh winter winds, blowing snow, etc. can give rise to frosted windows which can be frustrating at times. If you wish to winterize your home, here are a few tips that might prove to be helpful. It would keep your interiors warmed up and make you feel really cozy.

Storm doors

Installing storm doors before the advent of winters can be a great addition to your home. It will protect your house against harsh conditions and keep your entry points secured too. These are mainly made of plastic, wood, aluminium, etc., which acts as a great insulation. It would trap the warm air inside and prevent the cold air from getting inside.

Windows films

Adding window films is a great step towards winterizing your home. It would not only keep your interiors warm but keep your privacy intact, day and night. Go for frosted window film which looks very smooth and would add a touch of professionalism. Hire a good company who can take the right side of your windows and install good quality films on it.

Attic insulation

While winterizing their home, people mostly tend to forget the attic region. One should have R-38 insulation in their attic, which is at least 10-14 inches deep. It would help in keeping your room warm and prevent the cold air from flowing below the attic.

Sealing the cracks

It is one of the simplest changes that you can bring on to your home, in order to make it insulated. You should seal all the holes and cracks in and around your doors, windows, pipes, attic, etc. A small crack can drain down your efforts to keep your home insulated, so keep that in mind. You can use acrylic-latex caulk or expanding foams as sealants.

Programmable thermostat

Programmable thermostats are one of the best pieces of equipment to winterize your home. You can adjust it easily suit your needs and the device is designed for your convenience. Most of these come with weekend and vacation settings so that you do not face any issues when you are out of your home. The best part is, you will be able to control it from anywhere in the world.

Reversing the ceiling fan

Ceiling fans are useful, not only in summer but also during the winters. Most of the smart fans come with motors and remote controls, which enables you to reverse the ceiling fan- it would run anti-clockwise taking up all the cool breeze. It would also force the warm air trapped in the ceiling to come down.

These are some of the most effective winterizing steps that you should apply to your home for making it winter ready. These affordable makeovers would give you a comfortable stay during the harsh season.
